Who We Are
The strategic planning, direction and oversight of Ghana HIV/AIDS Awareness Project is currently overseen by an International Leadership Council, comprised of four Ghanaian based non-governmental organizations (Centre for Popular Education and Human Rights Ghana, Charity Youth Organization, Development Solutions, and Young Ghana Youth Organization) and one USA based organization (Healthy Black Communities, Inc.).
What We Do
Through partnerships with both urban and rural schools, villages, government hospitals and communities; we are able to conduct a variety of HIV/AIDS prevention education via the following activities:
- Interactive Theatre (schools and universities)
- Soccer Tournaments
- Spelling Bee Contests
- AIDS Walk
- USA/Ghana Girls Correspondence Exchange
HBC, Inc. works with each organization to develop their capacity and infrastructure to garner resources that will assist them in doing more work around HIV/AIDS prevention.
When We Do It
The aforementioned activities happen twice a year, Spring and Fall/Winter. Each organization identifies events and/or activities that will provide maximum community mobilization impact. HBC, Inc., as a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization conducts a variety of fundraising and resource development work in the US to acquire the resources (cash and durable goods) for each event identified to happen.
Why We Do It
There is a vast need, both in the United States and in other parts of the world to do the greatest good for the greatest amount of people. Ghana, as many African countries’ playing field is not leveled when it comes to having enough resources to improve the health and quality of life for its people.
Through the utilization of in-country organizations and Ghana born citizens, this project has been recognized as a beacon of hope for contributing to the reduction of HIV/AIDS. In 2006 alone; 29,000 Ghanaians died from AIDS, that’s approximately 79 people per day. We do what we do because one infection has a phenomenal effect on the life of that individual, their family and community.
Where We Do It
GHAAP conducts its work in four different regions of the country (Accra, Brong Ahafo, Central and Volta). Each organization has a network within their community which is accessed to ensure the success of each event. Each of these regions has some of the highest HIV prevalence rates in the country.
Sponsorship Opportunities
Becoming a sponsor for GHAAP is an excellent opportunity for you, your company, organization or government division to raise the visibility of your products and/or services among key decision-makers in the field of international HIV/AIDS prevention, care and treatment.
It’s not just the money, it’s the knowing that every dollar you give goes towards changing the course and direction of someone’s life that you may or may never meet.

What We Need
During life’s struggles, we are often reminded that more must be done to continue positive, humane acts of kindness and to sustain programs for personal enrichment. We wish more funding were available for HIV/AIDS prevention, development of clean water plants, research for a cure or a treasured arts or music program.
HBC, Inc. needs your financial assistance to make this project a success in Ghana, West Africa. More than 80% of Americans contribute to nonprofit groups of their choice throughout their lifetimes; we want you to add HBC, Inc. to your list.
Gifts large and small are welcomed. Charitable giving is not only for the wealthy! With your support, we are able to:
- host interactive theatrical programming that allows us to educate young people about HIV/AIDS;
- sponsor soccer tournaments and pause before the last match to conduct a communitywide discussion on HIV and teach them the ABCs of prevention (Abstinence, Be Faithful and Condom use);
- facilitate young people to learn how to spell HIV/AIDS related words and use them in sentences, this allows them to internalize the facts about HIV/AIDS;
- purchase t-shirts for an AIDS Walk through a village that has the HIGHEST HIV infection rate in the country; and
- provide school supplies, medical supplies and general office supplies to those who partner with us to make each project component a success.
